Dear Diary,

Last tuesday we played Conestoga at the Liacouras Center at Temple University. We won 62-52. I got off to a good start and scored our first six points. I finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds. It felt great because most people thought we would lose to Conestoga and by winning we made it to the championship game against Norristown.

On friday we played Norristown in the chip. It was a great game for the fans but we lost by 3 points, 52-49. Khalif Wyatt was on fire the whole night and had a bunch of deep 3’s.

We play our next game on saturday against Penn Manor. I think we can go all the way.

I’m doing fine in school. I had a history test on friday and I’m sure i did good because we prepared all week for it.

Dear Diary,

We lost to Germantown Academy 47-43, in the 2nd round of the private school state tournament. I had 11 points and 14 rebounds. Our last game of the season was against St. Anthony’s in Newark, N.J. We got blown out. I had 17 points and 15 rebounds. Afterwards my coach told me that I averaged a double-double for the season. This weekend I found out that I was the only freshman to make first team All Friends League.

Dear Diary,

I’ve been rehabbing since surgery. I got cleared to run and jump on the day of the Catholic League Championship. To rehab my knee I’ve been doing pool workouts, riding the stationary bike and weight resistant lifting. To stay in shape I’ve been doing cardio work and lifting twice a week for my upper body.
I was really excited to find out that I made the McDonald’s Game. First they called my coach and then they mailed paperwork for me to fill out to my school. This is the greatest honor a high school senior can get. I’m going to go to Miami and work hard and bring back the MVP Award like my man Tyreke did last year. Thats my goal!

Dear Diary,

We just finished up our catholic league season 19 and 0. We beat north catholic
by 20 and I had 17 points and 6 assists. After that we played monday for the
championship against roman catholic who has been our rival for years. We ended
up winning the game by 33 and I had 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists and
steals. It felt real good winning the championship and winning by that much
since everybody thought that we were under rated since the beginning of the
season. I think that game showed that we are good and the top team in the city.
It was a big game for me because almost half of the city was there and they all
got to see how good I really am. Although we won the catholic league our season
isn’t done yet. We have a game coming up this saturday at temple for the city
championship and after that we have states. If we win both of these than it’ll
be a good way to close out the season only losing 2 games the whole season.

Dear Diary,

The past week has been our best this season. Coach Givens keeps telling us that we are getting better and better as the season goes on. First we beat Westtown, 58-51. I had 13 points and 15 rebounds. By beating Westtown, we got to play Friends Central in the Friends League Championship last friday night at Haverford. We beat Friends Central, 57-52. It was an exciting game and went into overtime. Everyone on our team played well. It seemed like Warren Gillis made every shot he took, he was on fire. Malcolm Gilbert had a double double and dunked on one of FC’s players. I had 6 points and 13 rebounds. The place was packed and to beat FC in the chip was a great feeling. We are the 2009 Friends League Champs!

Last night we beat Episcopal Academy, 65-50. It was the first round of our state tournament. I had 25 points and 15 rebounds. We play Germantown Academy today. Hopefully we’ll win and then make it to the elite eight round.

Dear Diary,

Since I last wrote, a lot of stuff has happened. We played Tennessee and beat them at their place on national tv. That was crazy because the whole place is bright orange. Our teams are six hours apart in the same state. We control the west side and they control the east side. Our teams are each others’ most hated rival, so for us to win at their place was sweet, especially since they beat us at our place last year. I was in the stands as a spectator for that game a year ago, on my recruiting visit and here I am one year later helping Memphis to beat Tennessee. To know that we delivered for Coach Cal made the victory even sweeter and everyone knows that there’s no love lost between Coach Cal and Bruce Pearl.

Last week we flew to Dallas to play SMU. Unlike other schools we have our own private chartered plane. We never go through regular airport security or have to worry about airport delays. Our private plane always waits on us. As soon as our games are over we shower, get back on the plane and head home. Coach says he does this because our time is valuable and we are more efficient with time management. Whenever we travel overnight we also have our academic advisor who travels with us. This way all of our homework assignments are always handed in on time. Sometimes we even have study hall on the plane.
We ended up beating SMU and the next day we practiced at their facility before heading to Spokane to play Gonzaga. The Chicago Bulls had a game that night against the Dallas Mavericks and the Bulls practiced on the court next to ours. We got a chance to exchange numbers and catch up with Derrick Rose. He said sometimes he wishes he were back in Memphis and that in the NBA it’s all about taking care of your business.

After practice we flew to Spokane. When we got to Spokane we had another practice/shoot around. Since our game against Gonzaga was going to be featured on ESPN’s COLLEGE GAMEDAY, Bobby Knight, Jay Bilas, Digger Phelps and Hubert Davis were at our practice. It was funny to see them at our practice cuz i’m used to watching them on tv. Most people predicted that Gonzaga would beat us. They had to move the game to downtown Spokane because of the ticket demand. We beat Gonzaga 68-50 and I had probably the best game of my career. I scored 22 points and had 6 rebounds. What nobody knows is that at halftime I felt sick and as were we walking to the court I threw up three times in the hallway. My teammates showed me no mercy and were laughing at me and calling me Willie Beamon. After the game my phone blew up. I had 25 new messages. It seems like everyone I know was watching the game. My brother said I repped for Chester. My mom told me that Bobby Knight was saying nice things about me and called me the best freshman in the country. While we were on our plane, right before takeoff, I got a phone call from LeBron James. He told me to keep working hard and I might be playing against him next year.

Dear Diary,

I was sick for the past two days last week. Wednesday was a snow day so we didn’t have school but I spent the day in bed sleeping. Overall I’ve been chillin. I haven’t had much time to play video games lately, since I’ve been doing my school work. Got my report card a week ago I got a B average. Season was over yesterday against Judge. I played pretty good, had a few dunks, blocks, you know the shindig. (lol) This season was okay we made the playoffs. I made first team all catholic in the process. This weekend I’m thinking about going shopping to buy some stuff for my dog and me (I guess).

Catch you on the flip side,

Dear Diary,

I got hurt playing against Cardinal O’Hara. I made a layup and came down funny on my leg. I didn’t think about it and kept playing. The official diagnosis is torn meniscus. This has caused me to miss three games so far. I was real upset about not being able to play against Chester because that game was at Villanova. On Wednesday I had surgery and the doctor said it was successful. I’ll be out for 3 weeks rehabbing and then I should be back in time for the state playoffs. This was a minor injury and I want to thank everyone for keeping me in their thoughts. My teammates have stepped up, especially Rakeem Brookins. The good thing about my injury is that now I have more time to devote to schoolwork and I’ll use this time to maintain my B average. I’m still in the running to make the McDonalds All-American Game. I found out its down to 30 players. That means 6 more players have to get cut. This would mean so much to me to be considered one of the best 24 players in the country.

Dear Diary,

After losing to Dematha our team knew that we had to get it back together
especially since we lost by double digits. We won our last four games. We
played West Catholic and won by fifteen and I had 20 points. The next day we
traveled to newark new jersey to play don bosco prep. That turned out to be a
closer game than we thought. They played at a slower pace than we usualy do so
it ended up being a low scoring game. At the end we won by 4 points I had 8
points and the high man on our team had 12. Then on monday we played arch
bishop wood which gave us a tough time when we played them home. They fought
with us all the way until the second half then we blew them out. I finished
with 16 points. Our next tough game is friday against penn wood at villanova so
I will be back writing about that game.

Dear Diary,

Last night we played Chester. The game had to be moved to PennWood Middle School to fit all the fans who wanted to see us play. The game got off to a good start for us. We traded baskets most of the entire first half. Rahlir (Jefferson) hit a 3 pointer to end the first half which put Chester up by three. With two minutes to play in the game, Chester was up by seven points. Chris White came off the bench to hit a 3 pointer and that sparked us. I got two straight layups and we were back in it. We were up 51-49 with 10 seconds left in the game, when I got fouled while rebounding. I made both free throws to put us up 53-49. Baldie(Laquan Robinson) hit a 3 pointer at the end of the game. We won 53-52. This is the first time in 7 years that PennWood beat Chester. Coach(Clyde Jones) motivated us by telling us that some people were calling us overrated, he told us to lay everything out on the line and tonight we did. This is the best feeling right now. Coach told us to enjoy the win for the rest of the night and tomorrow we start preparing for Glen Mills who we play on Thursday.
